Placer County CCW permit training
Placer County CCW (Carry Concealed Weapons) permits and issuance criteria, training requirements and other
information can be found on this page with Best Handgun Training, as well as the link below, to the Placer
County Sheriff's Department. When attending the 16 hour initial Placer County CCW training, and
the 8 hour renewal (refresher) CCW training course with Best Handgun Training, we will cover all of
your CCW training needs, and get you well prepared for your Placer County CCW permit, including the interview
process, background criteria, and much more.
Obtaining a CCW permit in Northern CA is much easier than many bay area and Southern CA counties, which
outright refuse to issue CCW permits. You must schedule an appointment directly with the Placer County Sheriff
Department, CCW division for your interview and backgrouind check. You shall demonstrate good moral character,
prove that you are an outstanding resident of Placer County, and be prepared to undergo a thorough and
complete background check.
If you have no background concerns or issues, it is recommended that you take the training course prior
to your interview with the Placer County Sheriff's Department. If you have background concerns (criminal
history, bad driving record, etc.) you should go through your interview prior to spending money on a CCW training
course.
Upon approval of your initial Placer County CCW application, you will be required to complete at least a
16 hour CCW training (if you have not done so yet), including demonstrating the ability to safely (and
proficiently) handle and use the handguns (up to 3) to be on your permit, and you must "qualify" with each
weapon to be on your permit, by specific serial number. The gun(s) must be registered to you. The calibers
allowed on a Placer County CCW permit are from 25 - 45 caliber, and the weapon must not be a hide-away derringer
style. Visit the Placer County Sheriff website (link below) for more information on CCW issuance and criteria.
Placer County CCW permit holders with a valid, unexpired permit must attend an 8 hour refresher (renewal) course
and qualify with all weapons to be on the new permit. The weapons must be regsitered to you (no spouse) under new
CA law effective 01/01/2024.
Do yourself a huge favor, and take the BEST training course available, and do not allow any shortcuts when
taking this training. In CA, unfortunately, it is a "privilege" and not a right to be issued a CCW. The best
CCW training is very important, and selecting the best instructor should be a very important factor, when you
will be carrying a concealed weapon everyday, or just at certain times. Regardless of the number of days, or how
long the training is, or how far away the training center is, it is very crucial to know the laws of the state of
CA, and particularly knowing the laws when it comes down to self defense, and where you are not allowed to carry
weapons, etc., rather than just demonstrating that you can shoot a gun at a range.
At BEST Handgun Training, you will walk away with a tremendous amount of knowledge, and you will be well
prepared to carry concealed weapons. Check out our reviews on Facebook!
